Gaining Away

It has been a while since I last updated the blog.. looooong time. :) Well, we are right now in the waiting mode.. waiting for our new baby to come into the world. My parents have arrived safely here yesterday to help out with the kids, some cooking, etc. And they brought tons of my favorite snacks. I haven't been gaining weight the past few weeks of the pregnancy.. but in less than 24 hours, I have gained 2 lbs. Boy, I wondered how that could happen. But I don't think I would care at this point. :) I am in my 38,5 weeks with the baby, and with only a couple of weeks to go or so... I would just eat away :) I hope the baby would come out soon, though... because dad can only stay for 3 weeks here. And I am getting very excited to find out if we are having another girl or another boy. I love this guessing game! :) Maybe I am just nuts!

Uriah & Thea have been enjoying their new sibling so far. They love to see my moving tummy. This baby is exceptionally active, compared to when I was carrying Uriah & Thea. My midwife said that maybe because the baby is smaller, so the baby has all the room to make those big movements. I mean, seriously, BIG movements. I can feel even his/her gentle arms movements, because the baby has dropped very very low, with his/her shoulder around my pubic bone. I thought the 3rd baby is suppose to be the mellowest of them all. At least that was what I have heard from people. Maybe my case is the opposite... Oh, boy! Better be prepared! :)

Oh, some cute things the kids have said:

When I am working in the kitchen, I don't have a choice but get the tummy rubbed on the counter, because the baby grows mostly in my protruding tummy and no where else. It is hard to cut or do anything sideways.. :) And a few times, Uriah told me sternly: "妈妈,不要poke你的 tummy,你的肚子会pop."

I like to ask Thea & Uriah if the baby is a boy or a girl. When I asked Thea, “baby 是 baby girl 还是 baby boy?” She would say, "Baby girl". But when I ask in Mandarin, “baby是弟弟还是妹妹 ? She would say "弟弟". "妹妹在这边" while pointing to herself (because we have been calling her for a while, referring to the smallest girl in the house). I don't think she knows that she is going to be 姐姐 soon. Well, if we are having another boy, she can keep her nickname "妹妹".. :) and the new baby would be "弟弟". But if we are having another girl, then we have to convince her to be 姐姐. :)

妈妈受伤了

The other day, I was home alone with the kids, while Basri had a dinner meeting. So here we were, sitting on the table, just the 3 of us. It is one of those days when the kids refused to eat. Thea is usually a good eater, but she has her time, too. After trying to persuade them to eat for 15 minutes or so, I became inpatient with them. When Thea saw me getting angry, she was finally willing to open her mouth for the food. As usual, she started to make peace with me and calling me repeatedly: "Mommy...mommy..." with her sweet voice. Then Uriah said :"妹妹,你不听话。。妈妈受伤了。“ I almost laughed, because Uriah hasn't touched his food a bit, and yet, he said those things to Thea. Then I calmly replied:" Uriah, 吃你的饭,妹妹已经在吃了,你一口都还没吃。。“

I think he got the idea from Jay Chow's song, which they both love.... 听妈妈的话。。 I think he is paying attention to the song's lyrics more than we thought. That is why I think it is extremely important to be selective in exposing your kids to songs, dvds, etc. You never know what they pick up from them.

Kids Are Cute, Sometimes... :)

Kids are cute, sometimes... when they are not being mischievous.. :)

The other day, I was changing Uriah's clothes as we prepared to go out. He suddenly muttered: "这是起来裤吗?“, pointing to the jeans that he is wearing. It tooks me a few seconds to really get what he was saying. He was asking if the jeans are pants we wear to go out.. because I have told him before that we don't wear pajama (睡裤, 睡衣) to go out... thus ”睡裤。。睡觉穿的裤子“. :) I burst out loud thinking of "起来裤".. haha!

Thea, too has been very talkactive.. learning a lot of new words, whenever & wherever possible, especially from Uriah. Just after lunch today, she kept saying "hakim"... Basri & I pondered on the word... What was she trying to say? Then a couple hours later, when she & I are reading books together.. I pointed at pictures in the book and asked her what they were. When I pointed at Ice-cream, she said "hakim"... HAHAHA! I think we figured out what "hakim" was :)

Asian Style Bread 湯種甜麵糰

After so many failed attempts, I finally found my favorite recipe to make Asian style bread. I was very excited, because I am such a bread eater. And this kind of bread is so versatile. You can use the dough to make all different kinds of bread like those in the bakery. Shown in the picture is Shredded Pork bun, Cheese & Chocolate bun, and Green Onion bun. I love making these flavor, just because I always have the ingredients at home. So I don't have to make a special trip to the Asian supermarket.

For those who wants to try making these breads, here is the link to the recipe that I use. I am so thankful for the blogger, for sharing a thorough instructions to all of us. :) And I am thankful for Internet.. What can we do without it?? ^^

Uriah 很鸡婆。。。 ^^

Basri was working in his office, reading some notes on his book .. Uriah was in the room with him. All of the sudden, Uriah said: "Daddy,不要那么近。。“ (while pushing Basri's face away from the book)
We usually said this to him when he is reading with the book too close to his face.
Basri:"哈哈哈" (burst out laughing..).
Uriah said: "It's not funny, Daddy."

Uriah Day by Day

Mom: "Uriah, 过来吃午餐。。。 " (Meaning: "come have your lunch")
Uriah: "Wait." (while continues playing in his little play hut in the living room)
5 minutes later.....
Mom: "Uriah, 过来吃午餐。。。, Please.. "
Uriah: " Wait!... Uriah 在工做。。。“(Meaning: "Wait, I am working")

=======================

Uriah was sharing his snack with me...
Mom: "Thank you, Uriah"
Uriah: " No pobem"....
I was thinking for a while....
Mom: "Oh...It's no problem, Uriah" :)

吞下去

Last week, we had friends visiting & staying with us. In the morning, Uriah and the daughter of our friends were having milk and bread for breakfast. She was very slow in drinking her milk, and her father was rushing her to finish, so that they could get going. At one point, the girl was just keeping the milk inside her mouth, without swallowing. Uriah, sitting opposite to the girl, uttered out: "吞下去......" (pinyin: tun xia qu... meaning: swallow it) "吞下去......" "come on, please...."
I almost burst out laughing. That's what we always told him when he was not swallowing his food.
While we always think he should be saying more things like the other kids his age do... he does indeed learn a few things... and said them when we least expected it.
